Dr Oz Longevity Grocery List

Follow the Dr Oz Food Pyramid, just start at the bottom and work your way to the top. Fight disease and revitalize your body with powerful superfoods from Dr. Oz’s food pyramid and add years to your life.

Vegetables, 4 servings a day
  • Jicama
  • Kale
  • Sweet Potatoes
Vegetables are the base of Dr. Oz's food pyramid, and the most important tool in fighting every major killer in America: heart disease, hypertension and cancer.

Jicama is a slightly sweet and crisp root vegetable that is high in potassium, which helps to reduce high blood pressure. Kale is high in flavonoids, which kills off cancer cells. Sweet potatoes are high in beta carotene, which helps to build heart-healthy vitamin A within the body. Microwave or steam vegetables with as little water as possible to retain the maximum amount of nutrients.

Whole Grains, 6 servings a day
  • Teff
  • Amaranth
  • Millet
Whole grains are the next level up. Whole grains are high in fiber and necessary to colon health. Teff, amaranth and millet are whole grains popular in other parts of the world but now widely available in the US. These whole grains are high in protein. One key to longevity is getting more of your protein from plants instead of animal sources. They are also high in calcium, which helps to strengthen bones, and Omega-3 fats which are critical to brain health. Millet is also a great source of B-complex vitamins.

Fruits, 3 cups a day
  • Mango
  • Dates
  • Apples
Next to the top of Dr. Oz’s food pyramid are fruits, which pack an anti-aging one-two punch. The flesh of fruit contains vitamins and minerals, and the skin is loaded with powerful anti-agers due to a higher concentration of nutrients. Mangoes help fight cancer and heart disease, and can attribute their beautiful color to beta carotene. As a result of the drying process, dried fruits like dates are high in antioxidants. They are also a great source of magnesium, which helps the body maintain normal muscle and nerve function, steady heart rhythm and strong bones; they are also good for blood pressure and blood sugar regulation.

An apple a day may be the ultimate longevity MVP, loaded with fiber, antioxidants, folate and vitamin E to fight Alzheimer’s; and a flavonoid called quercetin that protects the brain against the oxidative stress of daily life.

Proteins, 3 servings a day
  • Trout
  • Tofu
  • Brazil nuts
Protein category includes meats, beans and nuts. Trout and tofu are high in Omega-3 fats, which ensure normal brain function and lower the risk of dementia. Omega-3s are essential to brain health as they provide the building blocks for brain cell renewal. Brazil nuts contain selenium, an antioxidant that fights the free radical damage that can cause cancer.

Dairy, 2 servings a day
  • Greek yogurt
  • Feta cheese
  • Buttermilk
The least amount of servings, is your dairy portions, which is especially important for women. Dairy contains calcium and is fortified with vitamin D – Dr. Oz’s #1 recommended supplement -- to strengthen bones and fight against the onset of osteoporosis.

Dr Oz 3 Parasites Under Your Skin

Dr Oz Parasites; Kissing Bug; Bulinus Snails; Hookworms; Chagas disease - Schistosomiasis.Your body may be home to Parasites and slowly and quietly killing you. Parasites living under your skin that can attack your liver, lungs and can get into your brain. How can they get inside you they fly in through your lips while you're sleeping. Dr Mike Leahy joined Dr Oz to explain about the kissing bug and Chagas Disease, Hookworms, Bulinus Snails and Schistosomiasis.

Parasites; The United States is fast becoming a fertile breeding ground for these silent, but sometimes, lethal organisms, which are found in water, on land, and in the air.

Dr Oz The Kissing Bug

The Assassin Bug - Kissing Bug; - The Kissing Bug defecates where it bites you. You get the parasite from the poop of the kissing bug which is deposited into the bite, hence the name the Assassin.

The bite of the Kissing Bug can be mistaken for herpes zoster, erythema multiforme and the ubiquitous catch-all diagnoses of "spider-bite." The Kissing Bug infects you with the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite, and it is not treated, you can develop chronic Chagas disease in which your heart muscle, esophagus, and colon can become inflamed and dilated, leading to heart failure and stroke.

Infected bugs are found in the Southern US, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 300,000 people were infected with the parasite that causes it in 2009. Rare in the United States, the incidence of Chagas disease is increasing.

Chagas Disease

According to the CDC Chagas Disease:

Chagas disease is named after the Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas, who discovered the disease in 1909. It is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which is transmitted to animals and people by insect vectors that are found only in the Americas (mainly, in rural areas of Latin America where poverty is widespread). Chagas disease (T. cruzi infection) is also referred to as American trypanosomiasis, South American trypanosomiasis.

Chagas disease is caused by a parasite. It is common in Latin America but not in the United States. Infected blood-sucking bugs, sometimes called kissing bugs, spread it. When an infected bug bites you, usually on your face, it leaves behind infected waste. You can get the infection if you rub it in your eyes or nose, the bite wound or a cut. The disease can also spread through contaminated food, a blood transfusion, a donated organ or from mother to baby during pregnancy.
If you notice symptoms, they might include;

Fever
Flu-like symptoms
A rash
A swollen eyelid

Chagas disease has an acute and a chronic phase. If untreated, infection is lifelong.

Acute Chagas disease occurs immediately after infection, may last up to a few weeks or months, and parasites may be found in the circulating blood. Infection may be mild or asymptomatic. There may be fever or swelling around the site of inoculation (where the parasite entered into the skin or mucus membrane). Rarely, acute infection may result in severe inflammation of the heart muscle or the brain and lining around the brain.

Following the acute phase, most infected people enter into a prolonged asymptomatic form of disease (called “chronic indeterminate”) during which few or no parasites are found in the blood. During this time, most people are unaware of their infection. Many people may remain asymptomatic for life and never develop Chagas-related symptoms. However, an estimated 30% of infected people will develop debilitating and sometimes life-threatening medical problems over the course of their lives.

The early (or acute) phase of chronic disease often does not have symptoms, but the chronic phase may cause an irregular heartbeat, an enlarged heart, congestive heart failure, difficulty swallowing, and abdominal pain and constipation.

Complications of chronic Chagas disease may include:
heart rhythm abnormalities that can cause sudden death;
a dilated heart that doesn’t pump blood well;
a dilated esophagus or colon, leading to difficulties with eating or passing stool.

Dr Oz Hookworms

Hookworms get into the skin by burrowing into the blood vessels, then make their way to the lungs and move on up towards your mouth. They do this so they can go down into your intestinal tract. As Mike Leahy says they can bleed you to death.

The hookworm is a parasitic nematode worm that lives in the small intestine of its host, which may be a mammal such as a dog, cat, or human. Two species of hookworms commonly infect humans, Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus. In the Southern United States they can be found in sand and soil. They can get under your skin and, left untreated, lead to anemia. Worldwide some 740 million people are infected with them says Dr Oz.

Hookworms are much smaller than the large roundworm, The most significant risk of hookworm infection is anemia, secondary to loss of iron (and protein) in the gut. The worms suck blood voraciously and damage the mucosa.

Signs And Symptoms Of Hookworms

There are no specific symptoms or signs of hookworm infection. Larval invasion of the skin might give rise to intense, local itching, usually on the foot or lower leg, which can be followed by lesions that look like insect bites, can blister ("ground itch"), and last for a week or more.

Initial symptoms can include a rash at the infection site. If someone is infected with a large number of worms, it can lead to anemia, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

Animal hookworm larvae on penetrating humans may produce a creeping eruption called cutaneous larva migrans. The larvae migrate in tortuous tunnels in between stratum germinativum and stratum corneum of the skin, causing serpigenous vesicular lesions. With advancing movement of the larvae, the rear portions of the lesions become dry and crusty. The lesions are typically intensely pruritic.

Coughing, chest pain, wheezing, and fever will sometimes be experienced by people who have been exposed to very large numbers of larvae. Epigastric pains, indigestion, nausea vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea can occur early or in later stages as well, although gastrointestinal symptoms tend to improve with time. Signs of advanced severe infection are those of anemia and protein deficiency, including emaciation, cardiac failure and abdominal distension with ascites.

The Bulinus Snail

Swimmers Itch; While the snails are in the water, parasites infect them, mature to adulthood and are then released back into the water to look for human hosts. When they meet up with you, they burrow into your skin and find their way to your bloodstream, from where they have an all access pass to your vital organs.

Schistosomiasis, it can attack your bladder, liver, lungs, intestine and brain leading to internal organ damage.

Urinary schistosomiasis (caused by S. haematobium) the eggs cause damage to the urinary tract and blood appears in the urine. Urination becomes painful and there is progressive damage to the bladder, ureters and kidneys. Bladder cancer is common in advanced cases.

Intestinal schistosomiasis (caused by S. mansoni, S. japonicum and S. mekongi) develops more slowly. There is progressive enlargement of the liver and spleen as well as damage to the intestine, caused by fibrotic lesions around the schistosome eggs lodged in these tissues and hypertension of the abdominal blood

Dr Oz had a quest on the show today who suffered from Schistosomiasis. It wasn't discovered until 5 years after being infected with this parasitic disease. Dr's thought he had an inner ear infection as he started feeling dizzy and couldn't drive.

After testing and an MRI they found a mass on his brain

Dr Oz Contaminated Makeup And Buying Dirty Underwear

"DANGEROUS BEAUTY – DR. OZ EXPOSES THE TRUTH ABOUT DANGERS AT THE MAKE-UP COUNTER" Make-Up Counter Dangers; National Underwear Experiment; Is your makeup Contaminated; Strep and yeast and fecal matter in underwear; Dr. Oz exposes hidden hazards at the make-up counter, do you know what's in your makeup. Dangers at the Mall: National Underwear Experiment 4 ways to protect yourself.

Dr Oz Dangers at the Makeup Counter

It’s scary but true: 100% of department store makeup testers are contaminated, some with E. coli. Dr Oz How To Protect yourself.

A 2-year study of germs at the makeup counter found that 100% of samples were contaminated with bacteria such as staphylococcus aureus(Staph), strep and E. Coli (the poop germ). It didn’t matter if the store was on Fifth Avenue or Main Street says Dr oz. Paula Begoun and Elizabeth Brooks joins Dr oz in this segment of the show "Do You Know What's In Your Makeup".

Dr Oz went undercover into 2 stores with 2 cameras to see what goes on at the beauty counter. One mother let her small child use a sample tube of lipstick, plus she ran her fingers across the display of all the eyeshadows, and sample beauty product testers. This segment of the Dr Oz Show is women choosing beauty over safety.

Dr Oz says every time you touch one of those contaminated testers you risk making the biggest beauty blunder of your life.

Protect Yourself At The Beauty Counter Dr Oz Risks 3 Tips To Use At The Beauty Counter

Dr Oz reveals 3 ways beauty products put you at risk and how you can protect yourself.

Dr Oz And Paula Begoun The Cosmetic's Cop Risk #1: The Bacteria at the Makeup Counter - Those pretty shiny testers are touched by hundreds of women who may harbor pink eye, herpes, a cold or flu, or simply hands that weren’t washed after going to the bathroom. There loaded with bacteria and feces and even e-coli says Paula. She said there is no evidence that your actually getting sick from it, herpes or anything but most germs are there, just because it's not recorded doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Use single-use applicators - Have an alcohol spray or ask at the counter for one and spray the tube of lipstick before trying it on, swab it from the side, and for lip gloss in tubes squeeze out a little bit of it and discard it and use a single use applicator to apply.

Disinfect lipsticks, pencils and brushes, use a Kleenex to wipe off the top layer of eye shadows, blushes, and powders and apply with a cotton ball.

Dr Brook's said 100% of all the products that were tested were contaminated. WOW! Dr Oz tested products from the local area and found strep and yeast in the products.

Take your own mascara for a makeover - everyone is re dipping the same applicator in the mascara and applying it to the eyes and then used on someone else.

Dr Oz Triangle of death(your eyes, nose and mouth) is when bacteria goes through the mucus membrane it goes straight back to the brain. Bacteria, virus's, fungi all of which Dr Brooks found on the samples can get right into our blood stream.

Studies found the highest levels of contamination were samples on the weekend. The lowest levels were on Thursday afternoon.

Dr Oz And Paula Begoun Risk #2: Eyelash Extending Products - Dr Oz said No over-the-counter product can extend your eyelashes, only prescription product – Latisse – approved for hypotrichosis (not having eye lashes) that does actually work. An ophthalmologist who was using the drug for glaucoma patients noticed that one of the medicine’s side effects was growing thick lashes. It is believed to work by elongating the amount of time eyelashes can grow before they fall out.

Dr Oz also said the medication in this product can also cause red eyes, bulging veins in the eye, blue black discoloration around the eye, and discoloration of the iris, burning and inflammation (none of which is particularly beautiful and can be dangerous). You can purchase knock off's of Latisse online and in Spa's, But Dr Oz says do not buy online or in spas, get the prescription for Latisse. Make sure your doctor monitors you while you take the medication.

Paula has used the Latisse, and said when you use Latisse correctly, it's sexy as all get out, and said she looks good.

Dr Oz Risk #3: Products that Lighten Your Skin. Dr Oz said he found about a dozen products at health stores and beauty stores in New York City.

Dark spots on the skin, often caused by pregnancy, menopause, or acne scars and there are lots of products that claim to help, but oftentimes they can cause more problems. The goal for most women is to have clear complexion and to be able to not have to wear makeup.

Prescription medication hydroquinone is very effective for evening complexion. hydroquinone stops the development of the melanin that creates dark spots on your skin. But, the overuse of hydroquinone or using unregulated products with it can cause you to develop blue skin. Doctors are reporting that more and more patients are coming to them with skin discoloration from hydroquinone.

Anything that contains more than 2% hydroquinone should be prescribed by a doctor. Dr Oz says beware of bootleg hydroquinone products, which can contain unsafe amounts of hydroquinone or harmful chemicals such as mercury and arsenic. Warning signs include suspiciously inexpensive products or those that do not list ingredients on the label.

Laser treatments are a safe and effective way to treat uneven skin tone when performed by a board-certified doctor with experience using them and experience with your particular skin tone and complexion.

Dr Oz said Topical steroids such as clobetasol, are also often purported to help even skin tone, but they have very serious side effects and complications including developing extremely thin skin, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, broken capillaries and even stretch marks and immune problems.

clobetasol is also used for women with Lichen sclerosus.

Other creams Dr Oz had on stage for skin lightening were Rico Skin Ligthening Cream and Body Clear.

Dr. Oz The Top Three Dangers In Your Beauty Products

At the bottom of the page you will find a list of Skin Lightening Creams containing hydroquinone.

Dr Oz Buyer Beware: Tainted Underwear

What’s lurking in your brand new lingerie? The Dr. Oz team goes undercover to reveal the shocking truth.
Think the brand new underwear you just bought is clean? Think again. There’s something lurking in your lingerie. The Dr. Oz team lab-tested undergarments from coast to coast and bargain basement to designer boutiques. The results were shocking, with some undergarments testing positive for yeast, fecal matter, even blood. Learn what you should do to disinfect your intimates.

Dr Oz Airing Dirty Laundry

The underwear you buy at your local stores isn't as clean as you think. As you pick and choose through the thousands of choices of bra, panties, bras or any intimate garments you are going to be shocked at what Dr Oz found. Dr Oz went with his hidden camera to 4 major cities across the country, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York. Dr Oz sent 36 samples to to a world renowned microbiologist for testing.

Dr Oz said one third of all the underwear tested was contaminated with dangerous bacteria. Dr Philip Tierno said women can try on underwear, and their trying on underwear without a hygiene strip. So when someone deposits something onto the underwear while trying it on, the next buyer can pick it up.

Dr Tierno said it didn't make a difference whether it was in a bargain store or a high end store. 62% of Dr Oz's studio audience admitted they wore new underwear without washing them first.

Dr Oz Tainted Underwear From Los Angeles

Los Angeles was the worst of the 4 cities tested, it had the greatest number of poorest results.

Dr Oz first sample was boy shorts from a popular discount chain, Dr Oz asked Dr Tierno what he found on these underwear. Dr Tierno found fecal matter, and suggests all new underwear be washed in very hot water 140 degree's. This fecal matter was found on regular size underwear, DR Tierno said imagine if they were thongs.

Dr Oz Tainted Underwear From Chicago

Dr Oz had a pair of briefs from a high end department store, and asked Dr Tierno what did he find on them. Dr Tierno found Candida, which can cause thrush, it's the number one cause of yeast infection. Dr Tierno and Dr Oz recommended using hydrogen peroxide and pour it onto the crutch of the undergarment that touches the genitalia and anal area.

Dr Oz Tainted Underwear From Miami

Dr Oz had a pair of lace thongs, Dr Oz asked Dr Tierno what he found. Dr Tierno found Group B Streptococcus on the thongs. Group B Streptococcus can be the cause of Neonatal sepsis and Meningitis, especially in pregnant women it's a problem. Dr Oz asked Dr Tierno what do when buying thongs and his response was to was your hands very thoroughly

Dr Oz Tainted Underwear In New York City

Dr Oz had a G String that was purchased from a very popular store, and he showed where it had a small stain in there. Dr Oz And Dr Tierno put the G String under the microscope and the red streak on the garment was blood. Dr Oz says there is nothing you can do about this and Dr Tierno says if you see something like this don't try it on and take it to the store manager. This should be taken of the store shelf.

After this Dr Oz Show on tainted underwear, I have a whole new perspective when it comes to buying underwear and undergarments.

Dr Oz Alzheimer's Fighting Foods

Dr Oz Foods That Fight Alzheimer's

Dr Oz Says Learn how eating the right combination of 3 super nutrients can deliver a powerful dose of Alzheimer’s prevention.

Studies indicate that a diet rich in folate, found in leafy greens like spinach and kale; vitamin E, found in almonds and hazelnuts; and the Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon may lower your risk for Alzheimer's by more than 1/3. Dr Oz Alzheimer's Fighting Recipes he shared with us today along with a list of foods to help ward of Alzheimer's.

Dr Oz said today that Alzheimer's affects 5 million people in the United States alone. Alzheimer's is one of the most feared diseases in the world. New research suggests that the power to prevent this debilitating illness may lie within the foods we eat. A recent study demonstrates how a dietary combination of 3 key nutrients might create a potent potion against this frightening ailment.

Dr Oz What is Alzheimer’s disease?

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory, thinking skills and over time, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks of daily living. Symptoms of AD usually first appear after age 60. Although there are some medical treatments to slow the progression of this disease, no cure currently exists.

Dr Oz Early Signs Of Alzheimer's

Checklist of the seven early signs of Alzheimer's can help you decide whether you or a family member needs further attention. Do you:
Ask the same questions over and over?
Repeat the same story over and over (and not because your kids are tuning you out yet again)?
Forget how to do something that you normally can do easily?
Get lost in familiar surroundings?
Misplace things often?
Neglect to bathe?
Rely on someone else to make decisions you'd normally make yourself?

A revelatory study on lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by ingesting certain nutrients was published in the April 2010 issue of Archives of Neurology and suggests that a diet combining key superfoods may actually prevent Alzheimer’s.

The nutrients identified – folate, vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids – are all believed to reduce inflammation, which has been shown to play a role in Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr Oz had a grocery bag with what he called Alzheimer's fighting foods, superfoods that you eat together because they work together to ward off Alzheimer's

3 key nutrients

Folate
High levels of this amino acid in the blood have been linked to reducing Alzheimer’s disease, creating plaque that is less toxic, or inflammatory. Leafy greens such as;

1. kale
2. spinach are high in folate.
3. Black-eyed peas,
4. Great northern white beans and other legumes are also rich in this valuable nutrient.

Dr Oz Vitamin E For Alzheimers

vitamin E, a fat-soluble vitamin, may also help fight the formation of plaque buildup seen in Alzheimer’s patients.

Nuts such as;

1. Almonds
2. Hazelnuts
3. Sunflower seeds
4. Sweet potatoes
5. Olive oil are all foods rich in vitamin E.

Dr Oz Omega-3 Fatty Acids For Alzheimers

Dr Oz says to eat cold-water fish such as salmon and sardines are high in omega-3s, and so is flaxseed oil. Many nuts such as walnuts and almonds contain high levels of omega-3s and also vitamin E, making them solid choices that do double duty in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer's Genetic Risk
Genes aren't destiny. But much of a person's risk for Alzheimer's disease is inherited. Will you ever get Alzheimer's disease? Genetics may have the answer. The genes you've inherited carry most of the risk. Close relatives of people with Alzheimer's disease are at much higher risk of getting the disease than people without such a relative. What it does not mean is that if you have such a relative, you're doomed to get Alzheimer's. 'Genetic' does not mean cast in stone.

Obesity and Alzheimer's
Today’s obesity epidemic may be tomorrow’s Alzheimer’s epidemic. The high insulin levels seen in obese people may mean a high risk of Alzheimer's disease. Today's obesity epidemic may be tomorrow's Alzheimer's disease epidemic, a new study shows.

People with diabetes are at particularly high risk of Alzheimer's disease. But now there's strong evidence that people with high insulin levels -- long before they get diabetes -- already are on the road to Alzheimer's disease.

As the body becomes more and more overweight, it becomes more and more resistant to the blood-sugar-lowering effects of insulin. To counter this insulin resistance, the body keeps making more insulin. If it continues, this escalating cycle of insulin resistance and insulin production end in type 2 diabetes.

Genetic risk: Apo E gene
A risk factor gene already identified makes one form of a protein called apolipoprotein E (ApoE). Having this gene doesn’t mean you will definitely develop AD; it only increases the risk. The majority of AD cases are late-onset, usually developing after age 65. Late-onset AD has no known cause and shows no obvious inheritance pattern. However, in some families, clusters of cases are seen. Although a specific gene has not been identified as the cause of late-onset AD, genetic factors do appear to play a role in the development of this form of AD. Only one risk factor gene has been identified so far.

Researchers have identified an increased risk of developing late-onset AD related to the apolipoprotein E gene found on chromosome 19. People inherit one APOE allele from each parent. Having one or two copies of the e4 allele increases a person's risk of getting AD. That is, having the e4 allele is a risk factor for AD, but it does not mean that AD is certain.

WebMD Resource:
Research has been done to link physical activity and the risk of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Adults who are physically active may be less likely to get Alzheimer's disease or dementia than adults who are not physically active.5 Moderate activity is safe for most people, but it's always a good idea to talk to your doctor before starting an exercise program.

There is also good evidence that older adults who stay mentally active may be at lower risk for developing Alzheimer's disease.6, 7 Regularly reading newspapers, books, and magazines, playing cards and other games, working crossword puzzles, going to museums, and doing other social activities, and even actively watching television or listening to the radio may help you avoid symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Although this "use it or lose it" approach has not been proved, no harm can come from regularly putting your brain to work.

Research has also shown that people who eat more fruits and vegetables, high-fiber foods, fish, and omega-3 rich oils (sometimes known as the Mediterranean diet) and who eat less red meat and dairy may have some protection against dementia. But the reason for this is still being studied.8, 9

As we learn more about the causes of Alzheimer's disease, we also may learn more about how to prevent the disease. Drugs now in development to prevent the formation of neurofibrillary "tangles" or amyloid plaques that damage the nerve cells in the brain may someday be used in people who are at risk for Alzheimer's.

Research into a vaccine for Alzheimer's disease is ongoing.

Even if something like prescription medication isn't good for you, your doctor wants to be your friend - "friends with a stars". They do what they have to do behind the scenes to get the results.

Mindy McCready was arrested for possessing Oxycodone(OxyContin), and Dr oz asked her what it was like to hit rock bottom and what made the "change" for her. Mindy said
"I was in jail". She went on to say "I have been in trouble for 6 years that the legal battle has stretched on from the fraudulent prescription Oxycodone. The night I was first put in jail and not given any bail, I am not a criminal, I'm a singer, I'm no danger to society, and no danger to anyone. I din't think that would happen to me, that was the very first night I spent away from my 15 month old son. Everyday kept me going knowing I am going to get to see him anytime soon.

Finally after two months of being in jail he came to see me and he didn't know me, and there were times I felt like I wanted to die, but never as much as when I went back to cell and heard the door slam and just realized what have I done, what have I become, look where I'm at. That was the moment I decided that instead of feeling like I wanted to die, I was going to change, and that I was going to do to become a better mother, a better person, and I started writing a song 'I'm Still Here'...It's healing".

Janice Min stated that there is a fascination when you look at a lot of the younger celebrities their just stuck in this pattern of attention seeking behaviour. She used Lindsay Lohan as an example. She needs this, it's almost like an addiction, her addiction is the attention she gets from behaviour that is either good or bad. Janice said there would be potentially negative stories about celebrities and the publicist and sometimes the celebrity themselves would call and ask what picture are you running.

Mindy said this is so true, there are times when we are struggling, and so humiliated, broken and hurt and would like to suffer in silence, but because of the media we can't. Once someone says something bad about you in the media, it has a snowball effect.

Dr Oz asked Dr Sophy what are the tip offs to look for are that are susceptible to these addictions.

Dr Sophy says the tips offs to look for with anybody are things like emotional problems going on in your life, financial problems, pressures, problems with your spouse, with your children, looking at your life in general, looking at your sleep pattern, look at how your eating, looking at work - do you like your work is it meaningful to you. Do you have friends, looking at how you deal with your emotions, and is your life in balance.

These are the triggers that will make you want to use, because your going to want to take away pain, your going to want to self medicate, and drugs are so easy to get.

Mandy elaborated on what Dr Sophy said; "A lot of people take a medicine, go to rehab, drink too much, go to rehab, and you think that is the issue, and necessarily that is not the the issue, it's the symptom of a much larger issue in which the reason I went to celebrity rehab was because of having codependency issues of having a very violent upbringing and I have carried that on throughout my entire life and had that in almost every relationship I ever had."

Dr Sophy said when they come to rehab their sense of self is so fragile when they come in many times don't have a sense of self in who they are and their role in life and get redefined as they get sober.

Dr Oz Adderall The Deadly Drug You Could Be Taking

Today, Americans are abusing prescription drugs more than cocaine, heroin and ecstasy combined. And prescription drug abuse is climbing, with an amphetamine/dextroamphetamine composite medication known as Adderall sweeping the nation as the “feel-good” pill.

Adderall successfully treats ADHD and Narcolepsy, Dr oz showed what the bottle of Adderall looks like but here is a picture of Adderall in it's different forms. Adderall is being used in different ways it's never been intended to be used like weight loss, that's where the danger lies. If it is abused and taken without the supervision of a doctor, taking Adderall could put your life in danger.

Dr Sophy told Dr Oz this drug is so rampant it isn't even funny, you can click on any internet and get it, go to any doctor and tell them "I have ADHD" and I need this drug and they give it, they think it's very safe to give.

Adderall is a very toxic drug, it's speed - It's street speed!

Dr Oz Adderall Pills That Kill

Adderall ramps up your blood pressure, raises your pulse, kills your appetite. The trade of to taking adderall is to look skinny and be happy, and that's what people get addicted to. First one pill works, then three pills then four, and you build a tolerance and after awhile your crashing when your coming off these pills, it's like having ten cups of coffee and hit a wall.

Dr Oz tried to explain the effects of drugs like Adderall through an animation and how they make you feel. How it makes an intense high that is so beautiful, so elegant you always crave more of it, and when you come down, you come crashing down.

Dr Oz says this is a big problem because people love it, it's not one of those drugs that get you feeling bad and you can take more and more of it and feel better and better by doing it.

Dr Sophy tells Dr Oz the dangers and reasons you could die from taking a drug like Adderall.

1. You could Have A Stroke
2. Your blood pressure will go up so high, you'll burst or you'll get a clot or move a clot that is in there
3. You could die because raises your pulse rate so much you will have a heart attack
4. You could die because you can go into a coma from it

Adderall is prescribed for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) and if your taking this and you don't need it and your now taking it your brain is pinging in overtime. And that frontal lobe is going to bust and your blood pressure is up, your pulse is up, your wired.

Dr Oz How To know Your Abusing The Drug

Dr oz says there are 3 questions you need to ask yourself;

1. Do you have a prescription that's yours
2. Are your friends abusing
3. Are you using it to lose weight or to stay awake

Dr Sophy says it is very hard to quit the drug because now your on a whole bunch of pills. One that worked last week, now you need 4 this week. You got to find the drug, then once your taking more and more you have to find somebody who is going to supply that to you. Any doctor hopefully will have enough sense to say "no way", but they can just doctor shop, get adderall on the internet and on the street.

Dr Sophy has many patients he prescribes it for their children, for truly diagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder that is tested and confirmed and parents are taking it. He said he will get a call saying I lost my son's adderall, or the dog ate it, it fell down the toilet. Dr Sophy says it's a controlled substance and the prescription is for 30 days and that's it.

Dr Oz Summer Diet Plan And Diet Destroyers

Dr Oz Summer Diet Plan - 3 Get Skinny Secrets; 3 Fat Fighters; Diet Destroyers

Dr Oz looks at the reasons why Linda, Tanya and Heather have failed at weight loss diets. Linda was constantly hungry and Tanya says it is cheaper and faster to eat out. Today Dr Oz says his SPF Summer Diet Plan is For everyone who wants to lose weight. ABC’s News Video Dr Oz Summer Diet Secrets -- Dr. Mehmet Oz explains the benefits of trying to lose weight over the summer.

The DR OZ SPF Summer Diet

S – Seasonal

Dr Oz says eat these foods you will slim down this summer without any question.

1. Apricots – Fresh Apricots has one fifth of the daily needs of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps you metabolize fat, when you have a lot of vitamin C in your diet it actually helps move the fat from where it’s stored to where it needs to be taken to get metabolized which is one of the reasons vitamin C is so important.

2. Okra - 1 cup of Okra has about 31 calories, has folic acid in it, helps you metabolize fats.
3. Cucumber – 15 calories
4. Peaches 70 calories and has about 2.6 grams of fiber which is one of the reasons why it keeps you full. So eat your way to summer health.

P – Price Saving Foods For The Dr Oz Summer Diet Plan

Dr oz picked foods that cost less than a dollar, especially inexpensive in the summer.

1. Green Tea cost thirty one cents a bag
2. Snap Peas cost twenty eight cents per cup. Snap peas are nearly half your daily dose of vegetables you need.
3. Yogurt - plain yogurt cost thirty seven cents per cup
4. Quinoa cost eighty cents per cup, and is half the daily need of iron per day, makes red blood cells and the energy you need for the day.
5. Black Beans cost 40 cents per cup, they have a lot of protein in them – Black beans have 15 grams of protein per cup.

Dr Oz totalled it all up and it came to two dollars and eighteen cents.

F – Dr Oz Fat Fighters

The last Dr Oz skinny secret is fat fighting foods. Behind 3 curtains he had a fat fighting superfood to eat this summer.

Fat Fighting Food Citrus Fruit Grapefruit – Grapefruit Juice Vitamin C is the most important summer thing you can add to your diet to start losing weight. Vitamin C makes Carnitine, a molecule required for the oxidation of fatty acids. Dr Oz says it is the most important thing he is going to say, and to get this clear, adding things like grapefruit juice to your diet, and when you exercise and you want to excelerate the recruitment of fat, you need to start doing this grapefruit juice.
Fat fighter Food Bison Meat – Bison meat is misunderstood says Dr oz, it has fewer calories, less saturated fats than regular beef and because it has a lot of protein in it, it makes you feels satiated. High protein diets keep us full for longer. Dr Oz says in the summertime we can have a little extra protein without the extra saturated fat and your not hungry. Dr oz had a big Bison Burger there to try and a Bison Dog.
Fat Fighter Food WatermelonDr Oz Watermelon Gazpacho Soup – Watermelon is not very energy dense, it has less calories and more volume. Dr Oz said soups are better for losing weight than solid food. Dr Oz says watermelon is a very important tool for the summertime. It is a big bulky food but it doesn’t have that many calories. Watermelon is on the clean list of 15 fruits that have lowest of pesticide amounts in the entire country.

Dr Oz Diet Destroyers

Dr Oz secret sabotages to your diets diet mistakes that have nothing to do with your diet and exercise. The secret sabotages to avoid on the Dr Oz ultimate Summer Diet.

In an example he had three dining areas and they were three different colors. A room with yellow walls, one with red walls and 1 with blue walls, and he asked everyone which colour wall was a diet destroyer.

The colour wall best for dieting is the blue wall. Blue is a natural appetite suppressant, people eat 33% less, one third less food in a blue room, because blue make food a little bit less appealing.

The warm colors like the yellow and red are diet destroyers.

Diet Destroyer #1 is food in a glass bowl. Glass, the transparent bowls are diet destroyers. Women ate 71% more food out of transparent containers than ones that are opaque. Your looking at the food through through the container and seeing how good it looks.

Diet Destroyer #2 is your center peice. The center piece in the middle of the food table is either flowers or a bowl of fruit. The flowers are the diet destroyer. Fruit, especially if you get the smell into your nose, gets you to reduce the amount of food you eat. Dr Oz says take the fruit bowl and put it smack down in the middle of the table and the smell of the fruit will make you cut back a tiny bit.

Diet Destroyer #3 is Candles. When you can't see the food well you tend to eat more of it. The brighter the room is the less food you will eat. You will linger at the table longer with a dim light, and tend to over eat. Dr Oz says brighten up the kitchen. These are all well researched, Dr Oz says;

Eat in a bright well lit room, that's blue coloured, keep fruit in the middle of the table in an opaque bowl, and your in pretty good shape.

Dr Oz tackles another serious subject: the alarming rate of HIV infections in young women of color. Dr. Oz shares a message of hope.

Grammy-winning R&B recording artist Mary J. Blige asks Dr. Oz about a subject that is very dear to her work offstage: heart disease, the #1 killer of women in the US. Dr. Oz walks you through the symptoms you should be aware of.

Dr Oz Mary J. Blige And Heart Disease

Mary J. Blige started a foundation that empowers women, heart disease is the number one killer of women. Mary J. asks Dr Oz "what symptoms should they be looking for, and what can we do in our own lives to prevent it."

Dr Oz said that Heart Disease is the #1 killer in women. Dr Oz said that 2 dozen women will die while we are watching this show, that's how common heart disease is in women.

Dr Oz told Mary J. Blige today she is going to touch a heart with her fingers, like she touches hearts with her voice. She put on the famous gloves that Oprah Winfrey loves so much, and showed her a healthy heart, and then Oz showed her a damaged heart. Mary J. stepped back and said "Oh My God". This heart had been damaged by high blood pressure, it was extremely large and thickened. The large heart had been fighting against things you have been doing to it.

Dr Oz Mary J. Blige Challenge

Mary J. had to put the right symptoms for heart disease in women in the right category.

Symptoms Of Heart Disease In Women Are;
1. Dizziness
2. Nausea
3. Sweating
4. Shortness of breath

Dr Oz told her that the shortness of breath is the big one for him. Mary J. said the shortness of breath scares her because so many of us have shortness of breath. Dr Oz told Mary J. if she remembers nothing else from their conversation, if your short of breath, the first thing he thinks about is to make sure your not having a heart problem, because once the heart looks like the picture, the blood backs up into the lungs and the lungs start to flood and you can't breath anymore.

Dr Oz Mary J. Blige Question On HIV And Women Of Color

Mary J. Blige had a second question for Dr Oz about her foundation. It does a monthly work shop for high school girls, the topic of discussion is normally is body awareness.

Mary J. Blige asks Dr Oz "why are young women of colour being infected with HIV at such an alarming rate, what can I tell my girls so they don't end up in trouble."

Dr Oz Said " The big problem with HIV, just to be clear on this, the aids incidence is one of the leading causes of death for young black people, especially black women. A lot of it though the rates are slowly dropping, a lot of it is caused by folks not knowing and realizing how important it is and not understanding that fundamentally it's not just about educational, but it's about self esteem too."

Dr Oz The issue of condoms - "a third of single women report that the last time they had sex used a condom, the other two thirds didn't. The fact that they don't have the confidence in themselves, and Mary J can inspire this confidence in them to respect their body, and to appreciate they can demand from their partners the same thing they want for themselves."

Mary J. Blige said she learned the hard way " I was actually one of those kids running wild, and when I learned to love myself, I valued myself, and I wasn't doing anything without protection, so this is why I believe I am such a huge role model for so many of them, because I have been there where they are, and tried to figure it out and made mistakes. I am precious to myself in that way now because of all the mistakes I made."

She thanked Dr Oz and Dr Oz said the best message is to just look someone in the eye and say hey listen "You need to love yourself as much as I love you, and if you do these things you are hurting me too."

Mary J. Blige Stairway To Heaven

His dad noticed he was having hives because he started driving to the hospital. Dr Oz says he will never forget sitting up in the car and looking out and all the colour had drained out of the world. Dr oz told her that was classic for panic attacks, it can begin suddenly without any warning, it happens in young women, sometimes you can have genetic predispositions to it, sometimes you got stress in your life thats causing it.

Dr Oz Panic Attack Treatment For Carrie Ann Inaba

There are medications but Dr Oz recommends breathing exercises, Dr oz told her bend her knees and squat to a lower position, then sip on water, sipping water slows down the heart rate, put the water down look towards the sky and image the most beautiful safest, calmest place you have ever been. Carrie Ann was thinking about the beaches in Hawaii. She said it works.

Trudie Styler Question For Dr Oz

Trudie Styler wife of Sting came running out in tights and very excited to see Dr Oz. Dr oz told everyone Trudie Styler has a series of Gaiam Video Tapes, and her latest DVD just came out called Trudie Styler's Sculpt And Tone Ballet and then asked Trudie what her question was.

Trudie says "I have been working out a lot of my life as you'll see, but I want to know what your secrets are to how you stay healthy given your amazing schedule, what are your secrets Dr Oz."

Dr Oz said "It's a pretty simple setup, first of all about 50% is cardio vascular exercise, 30% is stretching and Yoga, and about 20% strength training."

Yoga is Dr Oz's passion and he does yoga exercises all the time, every single morning he gets up he does the triangle pose by leaning forward and grab the space and lifts it up(you had to have seen it), it's great for the lower back and relaxing and works the ham strings. Then he does strength work to keep him relatively trim. He uses balls and use hand weights.

Trudie said she does yoga too, her new exercise is through ballet, she went back to her roots of being a child ballerina. So she helped Dr Oz unleash the Ballerina in him, and they both did some Ballet moves. Real cute... Dr oz doing Plié to Passé to Chassé moves with Trudie.

Dr Oz And Patti LaBelle

With several healthy cookbooks - Recipes to Sing About Dr Oz answers Patti LaBelle's question today. Patti LaBelle's question for Dr Oz was,"You know I am post Menopausal and I have been flashing and dashing and all those things and it's just not good for me and it's been happening for 14 years, and I want to know if that's normal or if there is a way for me to manage my symptoms without using hormones."

Dr Oz answered "Hot flashes are normal and 50% of women hot flashes for more than 5 years. One of the things that increases the chances of that happening Patti is diabetes which we've talked about before in past shows. One of the things that cause it is tight clothes because it keeps the heat around you, stress, caffeine does it, and by the way I know that you love spicy foods, and all those spicy foods are great for weight loss but it's not good for hot flashes, and Dr Oz told her to take Black Cohosh, it is very effective." Dr oz is going to deliver the Black Cohosh to Patti, and he gets the Lady Marmalade Spices in return

Dr Oz And Whoopi Goldberg

Dr Oz's answer for Dorothy - "If you have breast cancer that has hormone receptors on it, it means that it's turned on by Estrogen we are not always sure what kind of estrogen turns it on, that's one of the reasons soy which has phytoestrogens may still be beneficial for a lot of folks.

Dr Oz Miracle Pill For Cancer Gleevec

Gleevec Miracle Pill For Cancer

Miracle Pill Gleevec For Cancer: - Sprycel Cancer Pill Dr. Oz Dr. Brian Druker, who invented the cancer miracle pill, and some of the lives that were affected by the amazing drug. Sprycel is an oral, targeted agent that is approved for the treatment of patients with CML who have stopped responding to Gleevec and for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia Best cancer fighters from every supermarket aisle. Dangers at the nail salon. Is it Broken? Recipe Showdown - Hiral's & Elizabeth's Meatloaf Recipes!

Dr Oz - Brian Druker's Gleevec Miracle Cancer Pill

Today Dr oz was surrounded by people onstage that are cancer survivors, thanks to the the Miracle Pill For Cancer - Gleevec. These people were all dying from cancer at on time. Some were so sick they were living their past days in Hospice care.

They are all saying thanks to a Miracle Pill For Cancer - The discovery to getting cancer all together. Cancer treated everyone of those people with a death sentence, but instead every single one of them survived and living normal lives today.

The Miracle Cancer Pill Gleevec

The trials for Gleevec were staggering successful, nearly 100% of people treated for cancer went into complete remission. This cancer pill Gleevec is a revolutionary way to treat cancer. Gleevec targets and attacks only the cancer cells, leaving normal cells largely unharmed. A vast improvement over traditional chemotherapy that targets all fast growing cells and makes patients very sick.

Dr Brian Druker spearheaded the research on Gleevec(imatinib mesylate), determined to find a better solutions for his patients dying from a rare leukemia. Studies show the 5 year survival rate for patients treated with Gleevec is nearly 90%. And almost all patients show no signs of leukemia cells in their body.

This one drug Gleevec is approved to combat 10 different cancers, and now Doctor's are asking could the lessons learned from this miracle pill be one of the keys to preventing cancer.

Dr Gail Roboz joined Dr Oz and has seen this drug in action. Dr Roboz calls Gleevec life changing. It is life changing for the patients and life changing for research. She said there are a number of different tumours that have benefited from this drug. Gleevec was first approved to treat Chronic Myeloid Leukemia(CML).

Gleevec quickly became the treatment of choice for CML after its approval five years ago, and it is now also approved for a specific gastrointestinal cancer and several other rare malignancies.

What is Sprycel?

Sprycel is a cancer medication that slows the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. It works by blocking proteins that cause the rapid growth of certain types of leukemia cells.
Sprycel is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) when other cancer treatments have not been effective.

Sprycel Superior to High-dose Gleevec in Gleevec-resistant CML

"Sprycel (dasatinib) produces a higher response rate and improves progression-free survival in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) who have grown resistant to Gleevec (imatinib).

Sprycel is an oral, targeted agent that is approved for the treatment of patients with CML who have stopped responding to Gleevec and for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Sprycel is reported to be 325-fold more active than Gleevec for inhibition of Bcr-Abl. In a recent study, 37 of 40 patients with chronic phase CML who had failed Gleevec therapy achieved a complete hematological remission. Sprycel also produced major hematological responses in 31 of 44 patients with more advanced CML or ALL. Major cytogenetic responses were observed in 45% of chronic phase patients and 35% of patients with more advanced disease. Responses were maintained in 95% of patients treated in chronic phase and 82% of patients treated in accelerated phase. Most patients with ALL or blastic phase CML had relapsed at the time of this report. The main side effect appeared to be myelosuppression."

Reference: Hochhaus A, Kantarjian HM, Baccarani M, et al. Dasatinib induces notable hematologic and cytogenetic responses in charonic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia after failure of imatinib therapy. Blood 2007;109:2303-2309.

Gllevec does not cure patients of their cancers; it keeps the cancers from growing. The simplest way to explain the way Gleevec works, it acts as a bandaid over the luekemic cells and prevents them from doing what they normally do which is produce an excessive amount of white blood cells. Patients taking Gleevec are recommended to maintain treatment for life to help avoid relapse of the disease. It's not yet clear why the drug is not able to cure the disease.

"The hope is that we can take patients with well-controlled disease and cure them, so they no longer need medication," Druker says. "But we are certainly quite happy to have a treatment that controls their disease."

Eleanor and Dr Oz used doll houses to explain how cancer therapies traditionally work to destroy cancer cells. He used a light as a symbol of the cancer and started to smash the doll house with a maul to explain what happens to the body when multiple hits were applied, as with cancer therapies - Chemo killing the good cells.

Dr Oz explains Dr Dukes method of targeting the specific cancer, and turning off the light is the same as turning off the protein that was forcing these cancer cells to grow out of control.

Eleanor had Cancer stage 4 Gastrointestinal Tumour 3 1/2 years ago today was the day she was diagnosed. Eleanor says it's a miracle pill, she feels wonderful. With this Gleevec treatment you don't lose your hair either.

Tim and Lacey also joined Dr oz and met Dr Brian Druker. Tracey was 12 years old she was hit in the nose with a softball, and was immediately rushed to the hospital and was told she broke her nose. A couple days later she wasn't feeling well, couldn't see straight, her head was hurting, on the fifth day at 4 in the morning her Dad knew something was wrong, her breathing was shallow and he couldn't wake her.

Tracey was rushed right into intensive care, hours later the neurosurgeon told him his daughter had Leukemia. Tracey went through 3 heavy rounds of chemo, lost all her hair. Doctors then put Tracey on 300 mg of Gleevec a day and the results were immediate. The Gleevec kept her blood out of the danger zone. Although Tracey hasn't been cured she can live a normal life.
DR OZ GLEEVEC And DR BRIAN DRUKER: Droz.com
"Targeted therapies are different from traditional cancer therapies. Chemotherapy kills all rapidly dividing cells, healthy or not. The drugs coarse through the blood stream and kill cells that are actively growing and dividing, a hallmark feature of cancer cells, but also one of some healthy cells too. That is why people who receive chemotherapy experience side effects such as hair loss, nausea and gastrointestinal symptoms because the cells of these systems are constantly turning over and dividing making them susceptible to chemotherapy.

Targeted therapies however are very specific about where they go. They are designed to zero in on a potentially vulnerable aspect of a cancer cell's life. Researchers study features of cancer cells that either don't exist in a healthy cell or are particularly unique to a specific cancer.

Targeted drug therapy can block proteins, enzymes and receptors that fuel cell growth. They can modify mechanisms that turn cell growth on and off, or cause cancer cells to wither away. Still other targets mimic the body's own immune system as antibodies that recognize and kill something that doesn't belong.

Molecular Targets - Monoclonal Antibodies

Molecular Targets
The first molecular target was found on the surface of certain breast cancer cells. A region on the cell's membrane had a particular affinity for estrogen. Estrogen can fuel the growth of some types of breast cancer but when the receptor was blocked, the cells were less likely to grow out of control. Several drugs have been specifically designed to hook into the estrogen receptor's spot, leaving estrogen out of the lurch.

Another well-known molecular target was developed for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), a rare blood cancer. It was the first cancer to have a drug target intentionally designed to pull the plug on a cancer-fueling enzyme that has great growth-signaling powers. CML is a type of blood cancer caused by too many inefficient white blood cells in the bone marrow and blood, a potentially fatal scenario. But these badly behaving white blood cells have some unique molecular characteristics, making them ideal for targeted therapy.

Somehow, on CML-causing white blood cells, a region on chromosome 22 swaps with a region on chromosome 9, and this new arrangement produces the abnormal chromosome called the Philadelphia chromosome (named for the city where the discoverers lived). This abnormality is the key to the disease. Unfortunately the mutated Philadelphia chromosome makes an enzyme that keeps a cell’s divide signal in the "always on" position. And when the cells containing the Philadelphia chromosome flourish, they crowd out healthy cells, and the incompetent white blood cells grow unchecked.

Since almost all people with CML are Philadelphia positive (Ph+), Dr. Brian Druker, an oncologist at Oregon Health and Sciences University, proposed developing a drug to disable this enzyme. As a result many people with Ph+ CML, who once had few good treatment options, now have a chance at a disease-free life.

Monoclonal Antibodies
Antibodies can also be designed to become targeted therapies by recruiting them to do what they do best; zero in on a specific protein in or on a cell’s surface and mount an attack. If a cancer protein unique to a type of cancer is identified, an antibody can be designed to attack it. Then an exact copy or clone of that antibody can be engineered in a lab to match it (hence the name monoclonal antibody).

Some monoclonal antibodies targets carry a toxic payload along for the ride – a chemical or radioactive agent to increase the power of the attack. This is sometimes called immunotherapy, or radiotherapy if a radioactive agent is attached.

Patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma received the first monoclonal antibody developed to treat cancer and targets are either available or in development for almost all types of cancer."

Gleevec works by targeting, and turning off, specific proteins in cancer cells that cause the cancer cells to grow and multiply. GLEEVEC targets one cancer protein that causes Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) and another cancer protein, called Kit, that is the suspected cause of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). However, GLEEVEC can also target other proteins not involved in causing Ph+ CML or Kit-positive GIST.

GLEEVEC.COM: (imatinib mesylate) tablets are indicated for:
  • Newly diagnosed adult patients with Philadelphia chromosome–positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in the chronic phase (CP)
  • Patients with Ph+ CML in blast crisis (BC), accelerated phase (AP), or in CP after failure of interferon-alpha therapy
  • Adult patients with relapsed or refractory Ph+ acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL)
  • Adult patients with myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD) associated with PDGFR (platelet-derived growth factor receptor) gene rearrangements
  • Adult patients with aggressive systemic mastocytosis (ASM) without the D816V c-KIT mutation or with unknown mutational status
  • Adult patients with hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL) who have the FIP1L1-PDGFRα fusion kinase and for patients with HES and/or CEL who are FIP1L1-PDGFRα fusion kinase–negative or unknown
  • Adult patients with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) that cannot be surgically removed, keeps recurring, and/or has spread to other parts of the body
  • Patients with KIT (CD117)–positive gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) that cannot be surgically removed and/or have spread to other parts of the body
  • Adult patients after surgery who have had their GISTs completely removed

FDA-approved targeted therapies are listed below: Some targeted therapies block specific enzymes and growth factor receptors involved in cancer cell proliferation. These drugs are also called signal transduction inhibitors.

  • Imatinib mesylate (Gleevec®) is approved to treat gastrointestinal stromal tumor (a rare cancer of the gastrointestinal tract) and certain kinds of leukemia. It targets several members of a class of proteins called tyrosine kinase enzymes that participate in signal transduction. These enzymes are overactive in some cancers, leading to uncontrolled growth. It is a small-molecule drug, which means that it can pass through cell membranes and reach targets inside the cell.
  • Dasatinib (Sprycel®) is approved to treat some patients with CML or acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is a small-molecule inhibitor of several tyrosine kinase enzymes.
  • Nilotinib (Tasigna®) is approved to treat some patients with CML.
  • Trastuzumab (Herceptin®) is approved for the treatment of certain types of breast cancer. It is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2). HER-2, a receptor with tyrosine kinase activity, is expressed at high levels in some breast cancers and also some other types of cancer.
Lapatinib (Tykerb®) is approved for the treatment of certain types of advanced or metastatic breast cancer.

Gefitinib (Iressa®) is approved to treat patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Its use is restricted to patients who, in the opinion of their treating physician, are currently benefiting, or have previously benefited, from gefitinib treatment.

  • Erlotinib (Tarceva®) is approved to treat metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and pancreatic cancer that cannot be removed by surgery or has metastasized.

  • Cetuximab (Erbitux®) is a monoclonal antibody that is approved for treating some patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck or colorectal cancer.
  • Panitumumab (Vectibix®) is approved to treat some patients with metastatic colon cancer.
  • Temsirolimus (Torisel®) is approved to treat patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma.
  • Everolimus (Afinitor®) is approved to treat patients with advanced kidney cancer whose disease has progressed after treatment with other therapies. Other targeted therapies modify the function of proteins that regulate gene expression and other cellular functions.
  • Vorinostat (Zolinza®) is approved for the treatment of CTCL that has persisted, progressed, or recurred during or after treatment with other medicines.
  • Romidepsin (Istodax®) is approved for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) in patients who have received at least one prior systemic therapy.
  • Bexarotene (Targretin®) is approved for the treatment of some patients with CTCL. This drug belongs to a class of compounds called retinoids, which are chemically related to vitamin A.
  • Alitretinoin (Panretin®) is approved for the treatment of cutaneous lesions in patients with AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma.
  • Tretinoin (Vesanoid®) is approved for the induction of remission in certain patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia. Some targeted therapies induce cancer cells to undergo apoptosis (cell death).
  • Bortezomib (Velcade®) is approved to treat some patients with multiple myeloma. It is also approved for the treatment of some patients with mantle cell lymphoma.
  • Pralatrexate (Folotyn®) is approved for the treatment of some patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Other targeted therapies block the growth of blood vessels to tumors (angiogenesis). To grow beyond a certain size, tumors must obtain a blood supply to get the oxygen and nutrients needed for continued growth. Treatments that interfere with angiogenesis may block tumor growth.
  • Bevacizumab (Avastin®) is a monoclonal antibody that is approved for the treatment of glioblastoma. It is also approved for some patients with non-small cell lung cancer, metastatic breast cancer, and metastatic colorectal cancer.
  • Sorafenib (Nexavar®) is a small-molecule inhibitor of tyrosine kinases that is approved for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma and some cases of hepatocellular carcinoma.
  • Sunitinib (Sutent®) is another small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that is approved for the treatment of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma or gastrointestinal stromal tumor that is not responding to imatinib.
  • Pazopanib (Votrient®) is approved for the treatment of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma.

Some targeted therapies act by helping the immune system to destroy cancer cells.

  • Rituximab (Rituxan®) is a monoclonal antibody that is approved to treat certain types of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
  • Alemtuzumab (Campath®) is approved to treat patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
  • Ofatumumab (Arzerra®) is approved for the treatment of some patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) that does not respond to treatment with fludarabine and alemtuzumab.

Another class of targeted therapies includes monoclonal antibodies that deliver toxic molecules to cancer cells specifically.

  • Gemtuzumab ozogamicin (Mylotarg®) is approved to treat some patients with acute myeloid leukemia.
  • Tositumomab and 131I-tositumomab (Bexxar®) is approved to treat certain types of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
  • Ibritumomab tiuxetan (Zevalin®) is approved to treat some patients with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
  • Denileukin diftitox (Ontak®) is approved for the treatment of some patients with CTCL. Denileukin diftitox consists of interleukin-2 (IL-2) protein sequences fused to diphtheria toxin. The drug binds to cell surface IL-2 receptors, which are found on certain immune cells and some cancer cells, directing the cytotoxic action of the diphtheria toxin to these cells.

Dr Oz Marrena Lindberg 3 Step Plan To Help Women Boost Your libido

Dr Oz Orgasm Diet Foods That Make You Frisky; 3 women learn what foods can lead to stronger orgasms.
The Orgasmic Diet Action Plan; Fuel your sex drive with the right foods. Learn what to eat and when. The results could change your life.
Author Marrena Lindberg has created a 3-step plan to help women boost their libido and achieve orgasm. Jessica, Jenny and Niccki joined Marrena Lidberg on stage with Dr Oz to Know Marrena's diet plan to boost the libido.

Here is the Dr Oz Marrena Lindberg 3-step plan, you will find sample menus and daily to-do lists that will help you keep track of your supplement intake. If followed correctly, Lindberg claims that women can achieve orgasm in 10 seconds, women can each and every time.

Supplements You Will Have to Take for the Orgasmic Diet
Every day:

1. A good multivitamin in the morning
2. Fish oil, containing approximately 1700 mg EPA, 1300 DHA
3. The RDA of calcium/magnesium/zinc (1000/400/15mg); take these at different times of the day for maximum absorption
4. Extra vitamin C (a glass of orange juice a day is enough)

Every 2 or 3 days:
27 mg of iron

Step 1: Increase Your Testosterone

Studies show that women with a greater sex drive have higher levels of testosterone. To increase your testosterone, Lindberg suggests adding more protein to your diet, as well as zinc and magnesium. (Though the correlation between protein and testosterone seems to be inconclusive, there is proven science to support the zinc and magnesium recommendations.)

Protein: Get 30% of your calories from protein at every meal. Protein portions should be about the size of a deck of cards.

Zinc blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen.
Magnesium: Lower your levels of sex binding-hormone globulin (SHBG), which supresses "free testosterone." Magnesium blocks SHBG.

Step 2: Increase Dopamine
Dopamine is the brain’s “pleasure chemical.” Increasing dopamine can boost female sexual pleasure.
Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish help to raise dopamine.
Fish oil supplements: Take a supplement containing approximately 1700 mg EPA and 1300 DHA daily. Consult your physician before starting this diet. The high dosage may interact with certain drugs, like blood thinners
Dark chocolate: Eat a small amount every day.

Step 3: Decrease Seratonin
Too much seratonin can impair your sex drive. One of the side effects of higher levels of seratonin is low libido. A moderate seratonin level is ideal.
Avoid caffeine, starch and sugars.
Starchy foods and sugar will make your seratonin levels spike.
