Dr. Oz's first segment of his show today was on the topic of Medical Terror Attack - "The Three Biological Weapons That You Should fear Most," and what you should do to protect your family.
The Nations Top experts Randall Larson, Jeffery Runge and Dr. Leigh Vinocur joined Dr. Oz talked on The Weapons Of Mass Destruction, and what Countries has the capabilities of pulling such a thing off!
Dr. Oz never talked about terrorist attacks but not from a nuclear or chemical bomb, but from a biological weapon built for devastating and deadly bodily harm, and if we would be prepared if it did happen.
The example he used was that we woulnd't even notice a small plane flying overhead releasing an invisible odourless powder. The fine particles float for miles on the breeze, and when they cross your path you innocently inhale them into your body with a single breath. For days you will feel anything...Then it hits you! The you are fighting for your life, like thousands just like you, Anthrax!
A bio-terrorism attack can be deadlier than a nuclear bomb, and far easier to pull off. Anthrax, Bubonic Plague, Botulism, and virus's that cause fatal fevers like Ebola/Marburg, even a disease conquered long ago like smallpox all can be tailored made to become weapons of mass destruction.
Colonel Larson's group recently released information about the chances of a terrorist attacks will occur in America. He told us that Terrorists at some point in the future will use a biological weapon against America. It's much more likely than a nuclear weapon.
The 3 Biological Weapons
1. Anthrax - Dr. oz used the example that if a plane flew over Arlington, Texas with 5 pounds of powdered Anthrax, it could expose and kill over 400,000 people. Anthrax spores are found and grow in the soil and on the hairs of wild animals. Colonel Larson says that 100,000.00 dollars could get you this, and what you pay for a family car can get you weaponized anthrax off the internet.2. The Plague - The Bubonic Plague killed over one quarter of the population of Europe from the fleas of rats. Today this can be easily done once again through a spray. As the lungs breathe this in you could be dead in a week to 10 days if your not treated.
Dr. Runge talked on how Terrorist organizations can create one of these super plague's. There is no currently available commercial vaccine for the plague in the United States. Work on a vaccine is not funded by the Government, and can not continue because the Government will not invest in it.
3. Botulism - The most toxic substance on earth! it hits the food supply. You can transport it pretty readily, and it works by paralyzing the muscles, and can be introduced to the food supply. Colonel Larson said after having studied this for the last 15 years, said that this is the most likely route the terrorists would go would be to our food supply.
A terrorists only needs to attack one point in the food supply. The example Dr. oz used was the scare with the peanut butter recall in a plant in GA. The peanut paste was used in over 4000 products, this paste was used and sold for hundred's of brands, and by the end of the day almost every State in the union had products from that single plant. This was just an example of how fast it can be spread out.
Dr. Runge says there are not enough inspectors to check foods that come into the country, and we can't inspect our way out of this problem.
